Does it really matter if you founded an academic club?

Does founding an academic club significantly impact my chances of securing a master’s scholarship in public health, mental health, or psychology? I recently founded a club, recognized by a national youth platform, and I’m passionate about it. However, I’m curious if this achievement holds weight in admissions decisions for such programs.

In addition to founding the club, I have a strong background in extracurricular activities, have completed two research projects (currently working on a third, though none are published), and have a high GPA of 82%. I’ve also completed three years of clinical internships.

Could founding the club potentially offset my GPA? Also, can you recommend any public health scholarships globally that prioritize extracurricular activities?

Starting an academic club can boost your chances for scholarships by showing leadership. It adds to your strong profile with research, internships, and a high GPA. It might not fully offset your GPA, but it’s a great plus. For scholarships, check out ones like the Gates Millennium or Fulbright, which value extracurriculars.

Creating a club in my view plays a crucial aspect in the life of a student. Various reasons for such might include; To make a change towards resolving pertinent issues being faced by students. A lot of students lack self-awareness thus a club can be a stimulus in addressing that.
