I was wondering if scholarships that require payment are scams or not? I’ve come across some, but I’m not sure if they are legit or worth it.
There’s one called WAI.org. I was a recipient in 2021, but I had to pay for membership. I got the Keep Flying Scholarship.

How much did the membership cost, and how much was the scholarship worth?
@Shannon
The membership was $15, and the scholarship was $5,000.
Did you create a separate email for scholarships? I’m thinking about doing this to avoid spam.

No, I just use my regular email. You can always unsubscribe, but the bigger issue is having your info sold. These companies see students as desperate for scholarships, and some offers don’t benefit you at all.

You should never pay for scholarships. If they ask for money, it’s probably a scam. Legit scholarships only require an application or free sign-up at most.
The company is called Honor Society. They seemed legit, which is why I was unsure. I’m guessing I shouldn’t be paying for a scholarship, though.
@Shannon
It’s not a legitimate scholarship. Honor Society is a scam. They make you think it’s prestigious, but it’s all fake. They charge you monthly and have an annual fee. Avoid it entirely. People have reported it’s a nightmare to cancel.
@Shannon
Honor Society sends emails claiming your school signed you up, but it’s a scam. They charge $50 for membership and keep billing you monthly. Canceling doesn’t help, and some people had to change banks to stop the charges. Avoid it at all costs.
Never pay for a scholarship. It’s just not worth the risk.
My counselor told me to never pay for scholarships. If they ask for money, it’s most likely a scam.
