Scholarships for Black/African American Community Leaders

Hey everyone! I’m a senior, and as the school year winds down, it’s almost time to start looking for scholarships and applying to colleges—an exciting yet hectic process. I’m trying to find legitimate, less competitive scholarships specifically for Black African American students or those of African descent (my parents are Kenyan).

I started a nonprofit foundation in Kenya that helps underprivileged kids in the community, which I think would make a great topic for scholarship essays since it’s a significant achievement for me. However, I’m not sure where to find good, legitimate scholarships. I recently applied for the Ron Brown Scholarship, but that one is quite competitive.

If any of you have suggestions or know of some scholarships I should look into, please let me know! Thank you! 🫶🏾 And to all my fellow seniors, I wish you a fun and successful college application journey!

  • State Scholarships: Many states offer scholarships for students meeting specific criteria, such as first-generation college status or maintaining a certain GPA.
