If you’re an international student looking for scholarships, this post might help you. Give it a read and share with others. Many top schools give aid, but not everyone can get into them. Here are some universities that are easier to get into and still offer great scholarships. First, all public universities in Texas offer an out-of-state tuition waiver if you get a $1000 scholarship ($4000 for Texas A&M). These are some examples:
Texas Tech University: A 1500 SAT score and top 10% class rank can get you $9000 and an out-of-state waiver. For lower SAT scores, check the “Texas Tech International Scholarships” by searching online. Their website might not have updated details for 2024 yet.
University of North Texas: Similar to Texas Tech, but they don’t list specific requirements. The highest award is $10,000 with an out-of-state waiver. Search “UNT Excellence Scholarship” to find more.
Texas State University: A 1420 SAT and top 25% class rank can get you $12,000 plus an out-of-state waiver. With a 1260 SAT and rank, you could get $8000 plus the waiver.
Moving beyond Texas:
University of Southern Mississippi: A 3.0 GPA and 1360 SAT can get you full tuition. A 1450 SAT adds a first-year housing scholarship.
Western Carolina University: Their NC Promise program lets international students pay only $5000 per year in tuition.
University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa: Search their scholarships for amounts and requirements.
Georgia State University: A 3.6 GPA and 1290 SAT qualify for the Campus Atlanta Scholarship with an out-of-state waiver.
Florida State University: This one is tougher to get, but it’s a top 60 school. A 3.9 GPA and 1450 SAT earned someone I know an out-of-state waiver.
Mississippi State University: A 3.0 GPA and 1360 SAT or higher can get you an out-of-state waiver.
I hope this list helps. If you know of others, share them here.
If you’re from the Caribbean or Latin America, you can get tuition waivers at the University of South Florida. UMass Lowell gave me a $20k/year international scholarship, and the University of Delaware offered me $12k/year. State schools definitely have options!
