I’m 36, recently became a dad, and I’m currently unemployed. I’ve got one year left to finish my Bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University, but I’ve hit the borrowing limit for federal student loans. I’ve tried applying for scholarships, but I keep getting rejected, and I’m not sure if it’s because of my age or something else. I’m really struggling to figure out how to pay for my tuition. Any advice or suggestions would mean the world to me.
Have you checked with your school? Sometimes they have special funds to help students dealing with unexpected challenges. My community college had something like that, and a friend of mine got help after her house burned down. Since you’re a new dad and lost your job, you might qualify.
Let me know if you want me to look up what these types of funds are called. You’ve got a real reason to apply for this kind of help.
@Wynter
Just found it for you—it’s called an emergency aid grant. I looked up your school, and it’s named the Richard H. Tyler Student Emergency Fund. It’s a one-time fund for students dealing with tough situations like illness, family crises, or natural disasters. You can apply online through the Dean of Students.
Hope this helps. As a fellow parent in their 30s juggling school, I’m rooting for you!

Are you planning to go into teaching? There are a lot of grants available for people becoming teachers.
@Taron
No, it’s just math in general.
