I’m a female STEM biochemistry major in my second year, and I’m looking for local scholarships in South Dakota. I’m low income and mixed race. I need about $4,000 per semester for tuition and books. I’ve only heard back from the NASA Space Grant, and most of the school suggestions don’t really fit my situation. Plus, a lot of the scholarship websites I find seem sketchy, like Bold and others.
I work in a lab and highly recommend you give it a try too.
I’m in biology.
It feels like a lot of scholarship websites aren’t very genuine. Recently, I’ve been using Perplexity and Google Gemini to help filter out sketchy sites, and they seem to work well if you use them correctly.
I even considered building something to avoid the hassle of signing up for websites only to find out you don’t qualify.
My son had some success with scholarships, and here are a few suggestions based on our experience. Keep in mind that not all scholarship databases are created equal. I’ve personally used all of these for my son.
I’m not a fan of Bold or ScholarshipOwl, and my son didn’t often apply for no-essay scholarships.
What I do like:
- Scholarships.com
- Scholarship360
- Fastweb
- Scholarship America
- Kaleidoscope
- JLV Counseling Scholarships
- Discover (they have a huge list)
- Going Merry
- TUN Scholarships
If you check out TUN and search for their Women in STEM scholarship, it’s a legit opportunity. My daughter won it last year.
Avoid using Bold; instead, I recommend the r/dailyscholarships group for genuine opportunities. Also, search engines like scholarshipsamerica.org have some legitimate options.
To find legit scholarships, check official scholarship websites, use reputable scholarship search engines, consult your school’s financial aid office, and verify the legitimacy of any scholarship provider before applying.
