How do I get a scholarship for college?

Hi everyone! I’m lucky that the government is paying for my college, and I even get a bit of money back. But I’m just in community college right now. I wanted to know how to get scholarships and if it’s too late now that the Spring semester starts next week. I have a nearly perfect GPA, so I’m not sure what I might qualify for… If anyone has any advice, I’d really appreciate it!

There are tons of scholarships for transfer students. Here are some places to start:

  • Check with your local EOP office or Transfer Goal EOP, they might know about resources.
  • Your school’s transfer student center may have some good info.

One program I applied for was the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship—it’s a big one. A lot of scholarships will depend on where you transfer to, though, based on your financial aid, or from their resource centers. You can also Google scholarships for transfer students or use scholarship search engines like Niche. If you’re in California, there’s a Cal Grant for transfers, but not sure about other states.

I’m not sure how accurate this is, but based on my experience, there usually aren’t scholarships available right before a semester starts. There might be a few, but they’re rare. When I was looking for Spring semester scholarships, the application periods were back in October/November, and most were for the 2025-2026 school year. So, for regular scholarships, it’s probably too late. However, if you find any local socioeconomic programs from your city or state, they may still be open. Always keep an eye out for those!

Did you have a specific method you used to find scholarships?

Is it because you’re not working? FAFSA covered my community college costs, but I also worked part-time.

Following this because I’m also looking for scholarships and can’t seem to find any!
