Is 25 Too Old to Apply for a Bachelor’s Degree Scholarship Abroad?

Hi everyone. As the title suggests, I’ll be turning 25 next month and I’ve been researching scholarships for studying abroad in various countries, from North America to Asia. I’ve always dreamed of studying abroad, but financial constraints and health issues have made it difficult to pursue this dream, even in my own country.

I’ve noticed that many scholarships for bachelor’s degrees seem to have age limits, often capping eligibility at 24. Even if a scholarship offers a full ride, including travel expenses, it’s rarely available to those over 24. I’m feeling quite discouraged—why is there such a strict age limit?

I would say no, but if there are age limits on some scholarships, I think that’s really unfair and ageist.

I’m 26 and I apply for everything, and I’ve even won a few scholarships! You’re never too old.

Consider Private Scholarships:

  • Foundations and Organizations: Seek out foundations or organizations that provide scholarships for mature students or those with unique circumstances.
  • Company Scholarships: Some companies offer scholarships to their employees or their families.

Explore Scholarships for Mature Students

  • Government-Funded Scholarships: Many governments provide scholarships for mature students returning to education. Research the options available in your country.
  • University-Specific Scholarships: Some universities offer scholarships specifically for mature students or those re-entering education after a break.

Explore Alternative Funding Options

  • Student Loans: Look into student loans to help cover the costs of studying abroad.
  • Part-Time Work: Consider finding part-time work while studying to supplement your income.

Negotiate with the University:

  • Financial Aid: Reach out to the financial aid office at the university you’re interested in to discuss your financial situation and explore possible funding options.
