Is this scholarship legit or a scam?

ETA: I found the application criteria without making an account and realized I don’t meet the requirements, so whether it’s legit or not doesn’t matter for me.

I got an email from my university forwarded by an administrator I know from their official email address about a scholarship opportunity. However, I’m wondering if it’s legit or just a scam trying to collect personal information. What makes me hesitant is that I can’t view the application details without creating an account. The website looks well-made and professional, which makes it seem real, but the scholarship is for a large amount of money, so I’m being cautious.

The scholarship is the Flight 302 Legacy Award, and the application goes through Universities Canada.

If you know the administrator, why not call or email them to confirm? That’s the safest way to verify.

The administrator forwards things sent to the university, so I’m not sure how much they actually review. I’ve seen them forward other opportunities before, like one for a group offering help with research design, but when I checked, it turned out to be a company selling subscription products to students.

ETA: I’ll follow your advice and email them to ask if the university has had previous dealings with this company.

Just make sure you’re contacting the university directly and not using any contact details in the email you received. That’s a safer route.

I emailed the administrator directly.

We actually had a phishing scam last week where students got an email “from the university IT department” asking them to click a link to update their accounts. It turned out to be from a non-university email address, and I had to report it. I barely trust any emails anymore. It’s exhausting.

I got a reply from my department head (the administrator forwarded my question to him). He said the email originally came from the School of Graduate Studies and that he thinks it’s legit because he found the same website for the company that I found with a quick Google search.
