Hi there, I am in my second year of college and I did choose to enroll in this STEM program. However, I would like to drop it because I know I will not be able to finish in four years. It is possible that I do not owe them any money because I have seen that there are no payments mentioned under them.

If you want to exit the NYS STEM program, start by contacting your financial aid office to have them decertify you from the program. This will prevent any further payments from HESC.
Payments you’ve already received will turn into a 10-year interest-bearing loan, which will be deferred as long as you’re still in college.
After speaking with your financial aid office, also email scholarships@hesc.ny.gov to request to withdraw from the program. They will reply with additional details about the process.
Hope this helps.

Review your contract and NYS guidelines for repayment terms, and then reach out to the program directly to explore your options and understand the implications of withdrawing.
