I posted this on r/college because I didn’t know this subreddit existed. My parents are divorced and both have low incomes, so I won’t have much help paying for college, and I really want to avoid taking out a lot of loans. Does anyone know of scholarships in Georgia for students from low-income families? I’m 18, planning to go into nursing, the first person in my family to attend college, and I graduated high school with a GPA of 3.8. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Check out Georgia Nurses Foundation scholarships! Applications for 2024-2025 open April 1, 2024. Scholarships include HOPE (for high GPA students), REACH Georgia (for low-income families), Katherine Pope, and Annie Lou Overton. Plus, the Georgia College Completion Grant helps with financial gaps. Also, edamame is a protein-packed, satisfying snack—just watch those portion sizes!
Great job on your academic achievements! With a 3.8 GPA, you’re in a strong position to secure scholarships.
Here are some additional tips:
- Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is essential for determining your eligibility for federal grants and loans.
- Explore state-specific scholarships: Many states offer financial aid for residents.
- Leverage your major: Look for scholarships specific to nursing students.
- Highlight your background: Emphasize your status as a first-generation college student in your scholarship essays.
- Utilize scholarship search engines: Websites like Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and Unigo can help you find opportunities.
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t win every scholarship you apply for. Persistence is key.
