Where can I find enough scholarships to make college practically free?

The title says it all. Realistically, though, I’m looking for places to find scholarships that won’t waste too much of my time. My goal is to apply for scholarships during school breaks so I can reduce my student loans.

The chances of getting enough third-party scholarships to make college free are really low. The big ones are extremely competitive, and the small ones don’t add up fast enough unless you win a lot. Most scholarship money comes from the colleges themselves, so picking schools with strong merit aid programs is your best bet.

The big scholarships like Gates and Coca-Cola are very competitive. The smaller ones are usually only a few thousand dollars, so you’d need to win a bunch to cover even one year. I’d recommend focusing on scholarships offered by your school.

Wait, schools have scholarships you can apply for? I thought they just gave financial aid.

Yeah! Schools like Duke, Vanderbilt, Rice, Villanova, USC, and UVA have merit-based scholarships. Some require separate applications, but others automatically consider you based on your general application.

If you’re in Florida, Bright Futures can cover most or all of your tuition at in-state public universities like UF, FSU, and USF. I’m actually graduating with money left over. It’s not a top 20 school option, but it’s a great way to graduate debt-free.

Finding easy scholarships that aren’t time-consuming is tough since they usually have tons of applicants. But here are some good places to look for niche and local scholarships:

  1. BigFuture Scholarship Search
  2. Appily
  3. Scholarships.com
  4. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Hope this helps!

Bah gawd, that’s Uncle Sam’s music!!

Try downloading MOS, it helps find scholarships!

Bet! I’ll check it out.

If getting outside scholarships was easy, college would be free for most people.

Are you confused or just surprised? I’ll assume confused and explain:

Finding scholarships is difficult and time-consuming, and the payoff isn’t always worth it. If it were as easy as just applying online, more people would graduate debt-free. That’s why it’s better to choose schools with strong merit aid instead of relying only on outside scholarships.

@Haru
Nah, I was being sarcastic. My title was a joke. Obviously, scholarships are competitive, but I appreciate your explanation!

How’s your scholarship search going?

I have a scholarship list.
