Why do they want my whole family's income if I'm the one paying for college… doesn't make sense?

I was filling out a scholarship form just to see if I could get something, and they asked for total household income. I live with my parents and my sister. I get why they’d want my parents’ income, and maybe mine, but why would they need my sister’s? If I’m the one paying for my college, what does the household income have to do with it? Just seems weird.

Just put your parents’ income. Your sibling’s income shouldn’t matter.

Are you sure they even count adult siblings? A roommate wouldn’t be included in household income, and an adult sibling is pretty much just a roommate you happen to be related to.

It’s just how these forms work. They assume household income = financial support, even if that’s not the case. Annoying but pretty common.
